Sago Pudding with Agar Agar

Today Agar Agar recipe is with Sago. Sago Desserts are always delicious & healthy. Adding Agar Agar to it gives a delicious Sago Pudding. In Sri Lanka, we always cook Sago with Coconut Milk. So,I used coconut milk in my recipe. If you cannot find, Agar Agar easily in your area, unflavoured gelatin is the substitute. Anyway, after trying few recipes with both Gelatin & Agar Agar, I prefer Agar Agar.

Taste of desserts with Agar Agar recipes are softer than with Gelatin. Also a dessert with Agar Agar is a vegetarian dish.
This is another recipe using  Agar Agar samples I  received from Marine Chemicals.(The largest Agar Agar Manufacturer of India). They have already agreed to sponsor few gifts for a contest. Stay in touch! Recipe contest will begin on December 15th!

Here is the recipe for Sago Pudding with Agar Agar
Ingredients (about 6 cupcake moulds)
4  tblspn Sago
2-3 tspn Sugar (or as per taste)
1 cup coconut milk
1 cup water
3 tspn Agar Agar powder (I used Meron Agar Agar)
Few drops food colouring

Method
Dissolve Agar Agar powder in water. Keep it aside for 10 minutes. After that drain it.
Boil drained water in a pan, and add sago pearls in to it.Stirr constantly to avoid sticking.
Once it is boiling, add coconut milk. Mix well. Add sugar as per taste.Stir until sago & coconut is mixed well.
Remove from heat. Divide the Sago into few bowls according to number of colours you want to use.
Add a small drop of food colouring to each bowl & mix well.
Pour the mix into Agar Agar moulds. This time I used my silicon cupcake moulds.
Allow for setting. If you want to prepare with different colour layers, then use another layer once the first layer is set.
Once cooled and set, keep it in a refrigerator until ready to serve.
Remove from moulds & serve them.
I used some ‘thousands hundreds’ pearls on top of Sago Agar Agar for decorating purpose. Some fruit slices also would be a good idea to garnish.

What do you think? Quick & Easy dessert, isn't it? I like to hear your comments on this....

  14. Oh this are adorable. I agree with you - I prefer agar agar to gelatin; I think it gives a better texture. Plus you can never go wrong with sago!

  22. i made this with chocolate flavour and it turned great. i guess soaking sago beforehand can fasten its cooking time.

  23. Hi, I tried these with chocolate and it was great. The sago took long to cook, maybe it was old. Soaking sago may help in cooking it faster.
